Russian Scientists Including NSPU Professor of the Institute of Arts Designed Officially Patented Adaptive Clothing for Children with Cerebral Palsy (CP)

The suit consists of a jacket and trousers designed for everyday wear. It is made of linen mixed fabric in green and orange colors, these colors were specially selected to provide psychological comfort for children. The jacket is fastened with a zipper with large links and a large slider, which develops fine motor skills. The pockets on the jacket and trousers are also designed in a special way to give the maximum comfort for children. The jacket and trousers are equipped with belts with elastic bands.

- The clothes were given to children for trial use. They meet all the requirements for clothing for children with cerebral palsy. This workwear has all the required characteristics in design and selection of materials. For example, children who crawl might easily injure their elbows and knees, so, the clothing has special linings made of Thinsulate in the appropriate places to protect children’s body. Secondly, there are additional materials that prevent abrasion of the clothing materials, - said Olga Nikolaevna Kharlova.

Working on the design of the clothing, the Russian scientists used an individual approach to create the suit. Firstly, they got a digital photograph of a child and adapted the basic design of the product to the morphological features and structure of his body, and then made certain changes to the suit, for example, shortening or lengthening one of the sleeves, changing the height of the shoulders, and so on.

According to the director of the Institute of Arts, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor Vitaly Sergeevich Elagin, over the past five years the institute has obtained a great number of such patents.

- And this is in many ways due to Olga Nikolaevna’s works. She develops clothing for children and schoolchildren, including patients with cerebral palsy. This is a brand new direction for our institute, which is now actively developing, - emphasized the director.
