The competition spanned five months, and the participants were History teachers from schools and secondary vocational education institutions. The contest comprised four stages: an advanced subject knowledge test and motivation letters outlining the educators’ professional experiences; an essay on a specified topic; an assessment of the teachers’ skills in preparing and delivering a history lesson; and interviews with the participants conducted by members of the competition jury regarding the specifics of preparing students and the role of teachers in the contemporary education system. Over 1,500 History teachers participated in the initial stage of the competition, with 60 advancing to the finals, which took place in Moscow from 21st to 23rd February. The highlight of the event was the award ceremony held in a grand mansion opposite the Kremlin, known as Pashkov House. In the mid-19th century, with the support of Count N.P. Rumyantsev the first public library was established there.
The winners and prize-winners of the competition were fifteen people, including three participants having graduated or currently studying at IIGSO NSPU.
The third-degree laureate was Sofia Aleksandrovna Strugach, a History and Social science teacher at MBOU Secondary School No. 187 in Novosibirsk.
The award for the best essay was presented to Vladislav Yuryevich Beresnev, a third-year student at IIGSO and a History and Social science teacher at MBOU Secondary School No. 172 in Novosibirsk.
In the “Best Lesson” category, the winner was Aleksey Alekseevich Ovchinnikov, a teacher at MBOU Secondary School No. 148 in Kupino, Novosibirsk Region. He graduated the NSPU History department in 1999. In his lesson he presented projects where students connect local history and regional studies with the history of their families and significant historical events, and then use the outcomes in their research work.
- It was a great honour for me to be in Moscow among such experienced teachers, especially as I only have two years of experience. I would like to emphasise the significance of the ceremony: in addition to receiving the award, I had the chance to meet History teachers from across Russia, as well as members of the jury, and to exchange experiences with them. All finalists of the award were welcomed into the Rumyantsev Circle community, which is a great honour for me and a source of motivation for further development in my profession, - said Sofya Strugach.
Congratulations to the teachers on winning the competition!
