- Throughout the admissions campaign, over 1.3 million applicants have submitted their applications to universities, with the majority taking advantage of the ‘Online University Admission’ service. Notably, three out of the five most popular fields of study among applicants are in Engineering. President Vladimir Putin has emphasised that by 2030, Russia must train at least 2 million specialists in this sector, as they will play a vital role in securing the country’s technological leadership in the years to come, - stated Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.
Teacher training programmes see record number of applications for 2025 academic year.
– This year, we are once again witnessing a significant surge in interest among young people towards pedagogical fields – a clear indication that the teaching profession is regaining its prestige and appeal. As of July 28th, during the current admissions campaign, a record-breaking 514,193 applications have been submitted to pedagogical universities. Notably, applications for Bachelor’s and Specialist’s degree programmes in Education have increased by 25% compared to the 2024/25 academic year, reaching a total of 471,405. No doubt, that these future educators will bring fresh energy and dedication to our schools while upholding the finest traditions of our national education system. It is particularly encouraging to see the “Education and Pedagogical Sciences” programme emerge as one of the most sought-after fields for state-funded university places, – stated Sergey Kravtsov, Minister of Education of the Russian Federation.
Currently, the press service of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation reports a significant increase in competition for admission to pedagogical universities, with an average of 16 applicants vying for each available spot. This marks a notable rise from last year’s competition, which stood at 10 applicants per place. Leading the pack in terms of application numbers are the prestigious Herzen University, Moscow State Pedagogical University, and Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University. Notably, as of July 30, over 51,000 applications have been submitted to NSPU alone, reflecting a growing interest in natural science and mathematical disciplines.
– According to Rosstat, there is a growing trend among students opting for advanced studies in natural sciences and mathematics. This important topic was highlighted during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin and the Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, Sergey Sergeevich Kravtsov. During the current admission campaign at NSPU, we are also witnessing positive dynamics in this area. To further enhance the development and prestige of natural sciences, it is crucial to create material incentives for educators in Mathematics, Computer science, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. This can be achieved by actively promoting these disciplines within schools and fostering student interest through ongoing collaborations with universities, upgrading infrastructure, and facilitating in-depth subject study. To support these efforts, NSPU has established the Technopark of Universal Pedagogical Competencies and the Pedagogical Technopark “Kvantorium”, both of which are currently thriving. Additionally, it is essential to involve enterprises that are eager to train specialists in these fields, as well as to foster more frequent interactions with leading educators in the system. – emphasized NSPU Acting Rector, Sergey Aleksandrovich Nelyubov. – It is also crucial that schools, universities, and businesses must collaborate closely to achieve a common goal of educational excellence.
NSPU is currently accepting applications for its Master’s and postgraduate programs. It is crucial for applicants who have applied for admission under the quota system –including targeted, special, and separate quotas – as well as those seeking entry without entrance examinations based on their performance in Olympiads, to submit their Consent for enrollment by 12:00 Moscow time on August 1.
Elena Ivanova Kavaler, Head of the Department of Career Guidance, Career Development, and Employment at NSPU, emphasizes the importance of adhering to this timeline: “Applicants participating in the competition for targeted places and those under special or separate quotas should pay special attention to this requirement”.
