NOVOSIBIRSK STATE PEDAGOGICAL UNIVERSITY

The NSPU Quantorium is open!

The Pedagogical Technopark “Quantorium” is a platform in an educational organization of higher education subordinate to the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. It has high-tech equipment, teaching and learning facilities. The project implementation has been in progress since 2021. Each pedagogical university in the country is expected to have installed a new educational, design and research space by the end of 2023.

NSPU was lucky to open the Quantorium at the end of 2022. The large-scale opening ceremony brought together not only NSPU teachers and students, but also representatives of the regional educational system, the media and schoolchildren, who would soon be studying in the Quantorium laboratories. The ceremony was opened by the rector of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University Alexey Dmitrievich Gerasyov.

– Today we are holding a remarkable event at NSPU: our new Quantorium will definitely enrich and develop the university’s infrastructure. Two years ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin made a proposal to upgrade the material and technical facilities of pedagogical universities. No doubt, the quality of general education, a technological sovereignty provided by a new generation of scientists largely depend on the quality of teacher training, - emphasized Alexey Dmitrievich. – Therefore, it is very important that pedagogical universities to have brand-new equipment. The Quantorium will introduce new technologies to future teachers of Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Natural Sciences. There are also multimedia laboratories where students will develop primary skills in creating modern electronic learning tools.

On behalf of the Ministry of Education of the Novosibirsk Region, the participants were welcomed by the Deputy Head of the Youth Policy Department, Head of the Department of Higher Education Svetlana Sergeevna Malina.

– It’s difficult to overestimate the importance of creating the Quantorium, so I express my deep gratitude to the staff of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University for the implementation of this wonderful project. Today, universities are becoming pivotal centers for the region to realize great hopes and serious demands in education, youth work and society and social interactions. Centers like Quantoriums are designed to facilitate the university's opportunities. The practice to open Quantoriums in schools started two years ago, and the Ministry of Education fairly emphasized the fact that it was impossible to train creative youth without skillful teachers. We need experienced teachers, qualified personnel, and I hope that NSPU graduates will be looking up to such a great scientist as Yuri Borisovich Rumer, whose name is taken for the Quantorium!

Yuri Borisovich Rumer is an outstanding theoretical physicist, who was a colleague of Lev Landau and a student of Max Born. Since 1955, he headed the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of the Novosibirsk State Pedagogical Institute for seven years. Later, he worked as the Head of the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences which in 1957 became the Institute of Radiophysics and Electronics. This was a man of a hard but amazing fate. Yuri Borisovich was not only a brilliant scientist, but also a wonderful teacher whose lectures had a huge impact on Siberian scientists. Professor Rumer's students always remember him with warmth and gratitude. The special guest of the solemn ceremony was the professor's daughter, Tatyana Yuryevna Mikhailova.

– I would like to express my sincere gratitude for such an honour to give the name of my father to the NSPU Technopark Quantorium! His amazing life experience teaches us a lot: how to overcome the hardships and difficult life circumstances, how to retain faith in ourselves, in humanity and in science. I’m sure these are the qualities that directly show the purpose of the Quantorium. I wish the university prosperity and once again I say thank you to the NSPU management for this choice. This is a great joy and a great honor for our family and for me personally!

After the solemn ceremony of ribbon cutting, all the participants were invited to a tour of the pedagogical Quantorium and its laboratories: Natural Science, Technology and Media laboratories. The heads of the laboratories demonstrated the equipment to the guests and told what classes would be held at the new educational site of the university.

In addition to the opening ceremony, the university staff designed an information board with life facts and scientific achievements of the great theoretical physicist Yu.B. Rumer. It contains the description of his main life stages and his quotes, as well as important documents and memoirs of his students.
